words from our community: anja dietrich

I first tried and fell in love with Yoga Home during the Summer of 2015. They were offering a student special that I took advantage of before returning to Penn State for my senior year. Not only was I immediately hooked on the physical practice, but I realized all of the less tangible benefits of yoga. Yoga had become a great way for me to manage stress and focus on being more present and mindful in my day to day life. After graduation, I moved to Boston and tried countless studios, but none had the value, variety, community and quality of instructors to match Yoga Home. Last spring, I returned to the area and immediately joined Yoga Home. This is the first time that I have maintained a regular yoga practice (thanks to Yoga Home’s very full schedule) and I have really enjoyed the mental clarity and progress in my practice. I am so grateful for the wonderful instructors who dedicate their time to curating creative, empowering, and challenging practices and for a studio that promotes such a positive and welcoming community. In 2019, I’m hoping to prioritize and find more time for my practice!

How does yoga bring you mental clarity?

For me, mental clarity is all about perspective. I take the opportunity to set intentions for my practice that I can take off the mat. Yoga has helped me be more present in my life, on and off the mat, and more patient with coworkers, family, and friends. And most importantly to me, yoga reminds me to practice gratitude.

Of Yoga Home’s core values- connection, acceptance, community, love and growth. What value do you identify with the most and why?

This is a tough one – Kerri & Maura did such a wonderful job selecting these core values! I’d have to say I most identify with growth because it’s something I am always striving for. It is fun to master a new pose or see growth in my physical practice. However, I find it even more rewarding to see myself grow into a better friend, employee, sister, neighbor, etc.
