Yoga with Resistance Bands: Core Strength

Do you ever wonder what teachers mean when they say, “engage your core”? Do you struggle with instability, particularly in balance poses? Do you experience low back pain or tension? Have trouble feeling your core muscles? If this sounds like you, join Kristin Frederick for an exploration of your “core canister” through yoga with resistance bands. The use of the bands creates more sensory feedback for your brain and body, which promotes increased awareness of your core. We will explore the relationship between the breath and the core thru breath practices with the addition of the bands. In addition, we will use in them in a variety of ways in order to activate all the major core muscles including, the rectus abdominis, obliques, transverse abdominis, psoas, pelvic floor, spinal erectors, quadratus lumborum and more. Expect to experience familiar poses in new way. Resistance bands have the ability to train the body as a whole, instead of individual muscles. Some movements will require simultaneous activity of the lower and upper body, which requires the core to get involved. The bands assist your body in maintaining core stability throughout an entire movement. You will see how training your core is really about strengthening your whole body. Yoga with resistance bands will lead you to feel stronger in your asana practice, as well as, allow you to complete your daily activities pain free. Experience how working with both the breath and external resistance can lead you toward a stronger and more integrated experience of your core. You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of exercises that can be done at home. Resistance bands will be available for purchase.
