At Yoga Home, our mission is to educate and empower individuals through the art and science of yoga, engage in sustainable community outreach and support the spiritual growth and evolution of all our members.”
Creating opportunities for people to connect, discuss, reflect and build relationships are key at Yoga Home. That is why Jennifer McCracken will be leading December’s Book Club with Brene Brown’s Braving the Wilderness!
About this Book
Brene Brown’s uses her extensive research on vulnerability, courage, shame, and empathy to leave a last impact on how we can let our own voice shine in a society that wants us to blend together. Brown’s stories about her own life weave throughout her teachings on how to find your true belonging in this global community. Each of us offers the world a gift and this book encourages us to have the courage to maintain our own hopes and dreams, keeping the commitment to ourselves. It’s not about fitting in, but about braving the wilderness of criticism and uncertainty.
Why Jenn Chose this Book?
Brene Brown and her TED talk- “The Power of Vulnerability” inspired me as a classroom teacher and a yoga teacher. Disconnection with each other is on the rise- but it’s important to cultivate the commitment to yourself and then the community at large in order to build a better world. I chose this book for Yoga Home’s Book Cub because I am excited to discuss Brown’s message on how to live your authentic life and hold true to your values, while also showing up for one another. Sometimes, in today’s world it can be difficult to find your voice. What messages that Brene Brown shares resonate with you? If your copy of the book is anything like mine, it is highlighted and annotated (with maybe a coffee spill across some pages!) to remind me why I brave the wilderness each day for myself and others!
You can join us at Yoga Home for our Book Club Discussion December 14th at 7:15pm
What does Book Club Involve?
We’re looking to create opportunities for people to participate in person as well as virtually. We know not everyone may be able to make it to a meeting, but still would enjoy a ‘discussion’, so we’ll be posting questions on this blog and encourage you to share your thoughts.
Is there a fee? No! Book Club is one of the free, community events we offer at Yoga Home.
What if I don’t finish the book before the meeting? Come anyway! No need to have finished the book to enjoy the discussion.
Will there be wine at the Book Club meeting? You are welcome to BYOB should you choose.
What’s the next book we’ll be reading? I don’t know….do you have a suggestion?
Where can I purchase the book? In our retail section!
