teacher of the month ~ alicia rudolph

Who inspires you?

There are too many people to list but I really find women who are making waves and speaking truth to power to be particularly inspiring. It takes a lot of courage to speak up and speak out and I’m so grateful for all the role models out there doing that work on a big scale. A lot of those women write books and host podcasts too, and I have a long list of recommendations at the ready!

How would you describe your teaching style?

I like to focus on alignment in my classes and moving into a pose intentionally. I encourage students to find what they need on their mats even if that’s different than what I’m cueing. We are our own best teachers and it’s incredibly valuable to tune into what works best for you. I always want my students to feel welcome to invite in whatever they need, whether that be child’s pose, an extended savasana, or a couple of extra chaturangas.

Would you categorize yourself as a thinker, maker, planner, or leader?

All of the above depending on the situation but the thinker option stands out to me. Sometimes maybe over-thinker is more appropriate!

Of all Yoga Home’s core values {Connection, Acceptance, Love, Community, Growth} which do you connect with most?

I appreciate these core values and the way they show up at Yoga Home is something that’s very important to me. The value that I relate to most is community. Establishing a community is like creating a home away from home and I know that many others relate to this aspect of Yoga Home as well. The community extends beyond the reaches of the studio walls and out into the surrounding area, both with the monthly areas of focus and service as well as seeing people from the studio out and about. It’s always a great experience to have members of your yoga community become friends off the mat and I’ve had the opportunity to make many great friends from years of teaching!
