Yogis, Qigong adepts, and Tai Chi Players — awaken to the similarities, synchronicities, and variations of Tai Chi, Yoga, and Qigong as cohesive siblings of holistic energy art forms! Learning how to interlace these wonderful system’s fundamental principles of balance and harmony can pervade, enrich, and enlighten the yogic practice of all sentient beings.This workshop will rekindle movement practitioners’ sense of their “ inner warrior,” using historical references like Krishna mentoring Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, the transformation of a warrior prince named Siddhartha Gautama into “ The enlightened One” (Buddha), Sri Krishnamacharya composing Vini vinyasas for the advancement of the royal military’s agility, and Bodhidharma’s arduous quest on foot from Southern India to the foothills of Song Mountain in China to instruct the Shaolin monks with yogic Qigong to develop the mind, body, spirit , and Qi (Prana). Within this warrior virtue lies heart evoking symbolism for creative naming of movements, like “Radiating Warrior,” or “Blue Dragon whips its tail,” and motivation for a journey on our mats for a courageous and spirited practice.
Exploring the biomechanics of fluid movements, weight shifts, spherical chambers of energy, emotions, coordination, and balance will be incorporated in sequenced movement series. Participants will discover and engage in Qi filled postures flowing from one asana to the other. Relevance of Chakras, Dan tians (Chambers), Sound, Vibration, and Mudras will also be examined, as well as the exploration of the concepts of yin and yang. The ability to identify restoring, retaining, cultivating, cleansing, clearing and purging shapes and postures will also be explored.
