Yoga for Special Populations
At Yoga Home, we believe yoga is for EVERY body. Two of our classes, Adaptive and Chair Yoga are specifically tailored to individuals who may have physical limitations, chronic pain or injury, and are seeking the healing benefits of yoga.
Both offer small group instruction, minimize (or eliminate) transfers from standing to the floor, and make use of chairs, blocks and other props to make the postures more accessible.
Our skilled instructors have had specific training to create practices appropriate for those dealing with a variety of medical issues, including chronic pain, back issues, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, concussion, traumatic brain injury and other issues. You’ll find a mix of ages and abilities in these classes. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or navigating chronic health issues, these classes are a pathway to mental and physical wellness.
Yoga Home is fully accessible, with ramp access and accessible restrooms and parking.
Everyone is welcome to this class, where we make postures accessible, whether seated, standing or coming down to the floor. It is ideal for those seeking the physical and mental benefits of yoga who have limited mobility or balance as a result of the aging process, injury or other medical issues. We adapt postures using blocks, blankets, chairs and the wall; all to find the many benefits of the yoga practice – increased mental and physical strength, balance and flexibility; rhythm, an inward sense of direction and the ability to move through life in a more integrated way; the capacity to live more fully within the body; and an enhanced ability to manage stress.
Caregivers for individuals who benefit from assistance with transfers and other needs are welcome to this class, free of charge.
Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced seated on a chair or standing using a chair for support. It is ideal for those seeking the physical and mental benefits of yoga who have limited mobility or balance as a result of the aging process, injury or other medical issues. Expect to experience the many benefits, including stress reduction, increased flexibility and strength, and cultivating the mind-body connection.

Yoga for Caregivers
Come set aside the needs of others and allow yourself to drop into a safe space of taking care of your needs, body, mind and heart. We’ll explore pathways to releasing stress in areas of the body caregivers tend to overwork, including shoulders, neck and back. The second part of our class will be a restorative practice, with emphasis on releasing all physical effort so the body can completely rest, the nervous system can decompress and the mind can enjoy space to roam. You’ll leave feeling empowered, energized and ready to resume your critical caregiver role with new strength, vitality and peace. Appropriate for all levels, including those with no prior yoga experience. Check the events page for our next Yoga for Caregivers event.
Yoga for Kids on the Spectrum
Creating a safe, supportive space where children are encouraged to explore their body-mind relationship. Each child with ASD has unique needs and this class will provide many options for participation in a way that is meaningful and appropriate. We’ll be mindful of sensory input, use visual prompts and create an environment where children can learn techniques to self-regulate in a judgement free zone.
Private or Group Sessions:
We continue to integrate more and more Yoga for Special Populations programs into our regular event schedule, however we always offer private sessions to fit to your needs. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org
