Meet Jenn McCracken!

#yogahomies, meet Jennifer McCracken! You may have taken one of her Power Flow classes: Mondays 6-7pm, 7:45-8:45 Tuesdays, and 9:15-10:15am Saturdays!  However, Jenn also is heavily involved with our Kids Programming here at Yoga Home! You can find her teaching our Kids Yoga series and Baby and Me Yoga monthly!

What inspired you to become so involved in teaching kids yoga and baby and me yoga?
The Yoga Home belief that yoga is for everybody resonates deeply with me. Being a school teacher, I have seen how yoga positively affects students. A student’s concentration improves, they develop more body-awareness, and anxiety decreases. Being in a non-competitive environment improves a child’s sense of self worth. After giving birth, I did a six weeks series of baby and me and found that my son’s acid reflux/colic had gone away. Babies need yoga too and I try to incorporate some “poses” for baby!

Through your work as both a middle school teacher and a yoga teacher, what impacts would you like to make on the world?
I was called to the teaching profession at a young age- I am a very passionate person who cares about people and education is a unique way to connect to others. History tells the story of people and societies that are important to share and cherish; yoga is a way of life that strengthens the body and the mind. Whether I am teaching history or teaching yoga, I want students to leave my class feeling a sense of belonging and self-worth. All of my classes invoke themes and messages as takeaways to deepen our understanding of the world.

Would you categorize yourself as a thinker, maker, planner, or leader?
Definitely a planner! When I feel comfortable in a group, I like to make great ideas happen.

Of all Yoga Home’s core values {Connection, Acceptance, Love, Community, Growth} which do you connect with most?
Community- great things have been done by groups of diverse people that work together to solve problems. I am honored to live and work in this wonderful community!
