celebrating national disability employment awareness month with InspiriTec

This month we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an effort to raise awareness about employment issues for disabled people, and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.

InspiriTec has been a client of Yoga Home’s since May 2017.  We’ve had the privilege of providing two weekly classes for InspiriTec’s team members at their Center City offices.  Named one of Philly‘s Top Work Places, InspiriTec embodies “servant leadership” and has hired more than 1,000 employees with disabilities since 2000.

We asked our students at InspiriTec why they choose to take a break from work and come to practice.  Here’s what they had to say:

“I get more calm, more focused and most of all, I feel like I’m at peace with myself, despite what I’ve been through.” – Susan G.

“I feel like most people don’t stop to think about small things especially because they’re so rushed.  It’s nice to just come to a quiet space.” – Leah T.

“It’s an awesome experience.  It’s very calming and peaceful and gets out all the kinks.” – Melva M.

“It relaxes me.  After every yoga session it’s like “Yes, I needed that!” – Elijah Y.

“Once you do it,the rest of the day is the best feeling ever.  It’s easy, no tension.  It’s always good to come.  You always have to make time.” – Bopha S.

Wellness programs in the workplace are more successful when Senior Leadership embrace the initiative.  Here’s what Inspiritec’s CEO has to say about bringing Yoga to their offices:

“Adaptive yoga classes are a valued and enjoyable component of InspiriTec’s overall Health and Wellness program. In-office classes provide a relaxing and unintimidating space for our busy call center staff, 75% of whom are people with disabilities, to decompress, learn breathing techniques and return to their desks refreshed and ready to provide excellent customer service. Our workers tell us that the breathing techniques, in particular, help them to relax, gain more focus and invigorate them through the day.”  – John F. Connolly, Jr., Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer
